It takes a lot of self discipline for any leader or anyone in position of authority;to refuse the lure of money and wealth as not to enrich himself with public funds:These are the exemplary attributes of the Governor of Ondo state;Dr Olusegun Agagu. I see these attributes as worth emulation and I hope the upcoming youths, the next generation are learning from a worthy source for the continuity of good governance in Ondo state, Nigeria and the World atlarge. These are some measures he took to manage accountably;the finances of the state: • Prudent fiscal measures: Signing of 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 Appropriation Laws by the last working day of the preceding years; quarterly, mid year and end-of-year budget appraisals; decentralisation of payment procedure; prompt release of grants to ministries and parastatals and establishment of state debt management office. • Preparation and nationwide distribution of Ondo State Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy (ODSEEDS) document. • Establishment of State Allocation Committee with membership drawn from the three arms of government and other interest groups including labour which has ensured prudence and transparency. • Establishment of Ondo State Manpower Committee which has ensured proper tackling of manpower problems of the State. • Prompt and regular payment of salaries, pensions and gratuities, 2007 Leave Bonus already paid to all public servants. • Computerization of Payroll System which has eliminated fraud while ensuring efficiency and prompt payment of salaries • More efficient management of state’s investments in stocks through the setting up of State Investment Committee, and the State Policy Programme and Advisory Committee (SPPAC) • State’s capital projects adequately funded as all Warrant Releases were cash-backed. • Regular release of monthly subvention to parastaltals and agencies. Establishment of a Consortium of Insurance Underwriters and Brokers for more effective insurance of state’s assets and liabilities. • Community Profile and Vulnerability Survey in the three selected focal local government areas in Ondo State (in collaboration with UNICEF). • Trainings conducted on Preparation of Local Government Plan of Action (LGPA) for the three focal local government areas in the State Ministries and Parastatals. • Publication of Vols. I & II Reports on Statistical Survey of Infrastructure in Public Primary and Secondary Schools in Ondo State. • Publication of Ondo State Statistical Year Book, 2006 edition. • Updating of the Community Development Statistics Survey for 2007. • State foreign debt profile reconciled and excess deduction refunded. • Renovation of Treasury Cash Office. • Up-to-date Census of Industrial and Business Establishments in the state. • Prompt payments for duly executed constracts/projects. • Effective coordination of 2005 and 2006 SEEDS benchmarking • Networking of the activities of the Department of the Expenditure with the Accountant-General’s office for accessing schedule of releases on daily basis. | BACK STABBING **** BETRAYAL TENDENCIES OF DR MIMIKO AND WHY HE MAY NEVER RULE ONDO STATE. | john-son, September 09/09/08, 2008 |
|
A critical and clinical appraisal of the life and times of Dr. Mimiko between 1983 and now, it is crystal clear that the most visible character trait and his no 1 “stock-in-trade” is BACK STABBING **** BETRAYAL OF HIS BENEFACTORS” Deceptive leaders like Mimiko would always believe that their private imperfections or inadequacies won’t have public consequences, but they always do. Leaders cannot escape who they truly are and what they do in the dark comes out in the lights. If what they do is good, it builds characters in the leader and trust in the people, but if it is bad then it undermines everything they do until there’s no solid ground left for them to stand on. According to Soren Kierkegaard “Life can only be understood backwards but it has to be lived forwards”. Consequently, the hour has come for us as believers in the beauty of our dreams and the enviable future of Ondo State to say that the sunshine state has today been taken out of the woods, and going by the clearly defined policy thrusts on human and infrastructural development by Dr. Olusegun Agagu Led team, it is clear that we have left Egypt and we are journey-bound to our promised land. While preparing and rehearsing for our eventual departure for the promise land, very many were tried and tested but the only one that has been able to affect our totality in an unusual style is Dr. Olusegun Agagu. This feat is so precious that we will legitimately resist every attempt at loosing our pearls to the swine’s. Now that we know better, we will rebuff every move especially by a self-acclaimed leader whose style and fashion is consistently devoid of: Decency Dignity and Decorum. In the light of the foregoing the need to let the good people of Ondo State know or notice the subtle but dangerous character traits of Dr. Mimiko that will stand between him and the possibility of ever ruling or governing our beloved “Sunshine State”. The following factors are clear signs that he cannot and will not rule Ondo State as long as he remains an unrepentant personality in contemporary polity of this state: a)History of BETRAYALS against superiors or leadership b)Not been able to go through thin and thick with who ever he had served. c)Cannot endure turbulence(which is synonimous with governing a state or people) b)History of » Read more...
