| OB Da Dream Chyld | timmynaijazonegap, April 04/29/09, 2009 |
![]() Returns Nigerian Dancehall to its pedestal of Prominence. Dance hall music was Nigeria’s principal contemporary genre spinning off Millions of Naira in sales for record companies in the country between the late 80’s and early 90’s therefore being the genre of preference then. Thereafter Hip Hop music swept through the global scene, establishing its dominance and steady growth till date, Nigeria not excluded, thereby bring the gradual dearth of Dance hall music reign. O.B born Nnaemka Anselm Nwabuzor is an enigma that is bound to break that cold streak that has pervaded the Nigerian and global dancehall scene. O.B’s first professional venture into music was in 2002 when he recorded his first song at Redark Studio, Ikeja. Thereafter he started getting feature calls by other artistes and major exposure via events. | Nigerian King of RNB | timmynaijazonegap, March 03/16/09, 2009 |
![]() ![]() The most creative musician in recent times in the Nigerian music industry. His cocktail of genres from western world R&B and Rap To traditional Highlife music and Juju music is responsible for his unmatchable uniqueness. Paul started as a producer, songwriter and back up vocalist before hitting the limelight. Born to a great Nigerian music legend, Late I.K. Dairo M.B.E., who was the only musician to be honoured by Queen Elizabeth II in Africa in the sixties, Paul Babatunde Dairo is unquestionably, a chip of the old block. He joined "le griffe" an R&B group with his brother and cousin, Banji and Henry Dairo (both late now) in the late eighties, He vowed to keep the dream alive. He moved on to join other groups which include "De Klan", "Oxygen" and Pure Heart Impression. While with these groups, Paul was doubling as a jingle and soundtrack producer for advertising agencies and film producers not just that, he has also produced and worked with most of the upcoming artistes in Nigerian music scene and big names as well. He went solo after fears of continuity with his last group to record his first album titled "Dairo Music Foundation Project" in 1999 featuring hit singles like; Mosorire Happy Day and Yes O! . The Album remains a timeless classic, popular amongst Nigerians and Africans in Diaspora. The album has sold over two million copies and is still selling till date. To keep the marriage between his irreplaceable passion for music and the legacy left behind by his father intact, his debut album is a unique blend of remaking his fathers old hits and his first love; R&B. Ive always wanted to make R&B evergreen songs as an artiste, but my father left so much behind in terms of his music and fans, so I thought it well to keep his fans happy and his style of music alive. Explains this endowed musician on his first solo album. Sincerely, his debut album reflected all of that cutting from the roots to the urban genres. T he album became a delight for entertainment reporters, and music journalist. Which fetched Paul Play Dairo most of the Nigerian music and entertainment industry awards. ![]() The president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and first lady Chief Mrs. Stella Obasanjo are great lovers of Paul's music. He has performed for the first family more than any of his counterparts. His music has also been embraced by the elite as well as state Governors. His performance is rated first class at high brow events and he has also performed with international acts at major events. They include; Joe, Wyclef, Sean Paul and Shaggy just to mention a few. He has released two other albums "Project II" and "no. 1" these two albums were released in 2001 and 2003 respectively despite the intimidating factors affecting musicians in his country, he sold 1.5 million copies of Project II, and over 3 million copies of Number 1 Paul has worked with great producers and A&R in U.K. and U.S.A., after listening to "sacrifice" (song on the second alum) He was contacted through his partner Denitty by the management of Jimmy Cozier to write songs for his album. His works marveled the entire production team of a U.K. Management Company Starview Entertainment he was invited for a Producer/artiste deal in 2003. The first promo single from this yet-to-be unmasked masterpiece titled Angel of my life is comfortably occupying the number one spot on major charts, enjoying airplay on radio stations in Nigeria and other parts of Africa while the promo video has remained the most requested by music lovers apart from facing a heavy rotation. He wrote, sang and produced all the songs on this album that is meant to define his musicality and his love for mainstream music. Some labels have shown interest in this album but he believes the right deal is yet to come. With countless achievements in his country and beyond, Paul Play is still as humble and real as they come. The world waits for more as he is ready to give much more. His drive for music and creativity can only lead him to greater and better things. He epitomizes freedom of expression using mainstream music as a platform to exhibit the development of mainstream music in Nigeria, and Africa in general which should be embraced by the global music industry. Genuinely, he is the first Nigerian artiste to confidently come up with a mainstream album meant to break the language barrier, while creatively establishing the universality of music. With his mindset on the international scene, this workaholic remains unsatisfied until he conquers the world. www.myspace.com/paulplay

It started way back in August 2006, with the founder Ife-Ezy, Natty-Darlin, and Hong... when the A2 BrothazZ participated in a School Musical Competition and eventually emerged the 2nd place in the School competition, which was not suppose to be so... because the vote was rigged and bought by the so called Winner... No Hard feelings though... As for the A2 BrothazZ, they won the competition not the trophy...because after the competition, they earned the fame and were honoured in many occasions as guest Artist and all... rather than the Winner of the Trophy. After a while, Hong Opted out of the Crew and Leaving Ife-Ezy and Natty-Darlin to do it alone... of which Natty-Darlin opted out as well... and Adams came in to join Ife-Ezy after lots of performances and shows, Adams left the Crew without notice... and Ife-ezy was alone, then Natty-Darlin’ came back and AU joined the Crew then BABs came into the picture and rolled down with the A2 BrothazZ and Ife-Ezy produced lots of Singles for the Crew and including BABs, After their first recorded demo Jom pergi, the going was smooth, and their second was recorded titled: I’ll be Ur Man... and before their third single, Natty-Darlin was out of the Picture although an Associate of the Crew as a Pioneer and also after a while, BABs opted out as well. After a long while, Prince ICEZ Joined the Crew, so did the 1st Lady, ReNNi-Reign as the only Asian in the Crew, then Ray-Shekels joined the Crew later on... All this while, Henry B2H... was with Ife-Ezy Co-producer with him. He co-produced Kerana Mu and Beauty Queen. With the Current Crew, A2 BrothazZ has performed at different occasions, clubs, hip-hop festival, et al... One thing they all have in common is that they have been into music since Childhood... the Blood Runs in their Vein... they did not just start music yesterday but for years since Childhood. And they were never stopped by their parent. > www.myspace.com/afroasianbrothazz

| FECKO a.k.a RAPLOGIC (Dis Dude Is Sik) | timmynaijazonegap, March 03/09/09, 2009 |
![]() ![]() Fecko (born Ifeanyi Chukwuebuka Ibegbunam on June 17, 1989 in Onitsha, Anambra State) is a young and witty Nigerian emcee-****-rapper. Raised in the suburbs of Lagos state, Fecko has, throughout various times during his career, also gone by the stagenames of Raplogic, Feck, and Tha Lyrical Soulja. FECKO has also developed various backronyms for his name, including Formidable Emcees Can Knock-out Obstacles. He started doing rap music professionally in 2005 when he recorded his first Demo tape at a digital studio in Surulere (Lagos) after he graduated from high-school. Before then, he recorded a couple of freestyles and rap songs with the aid of a tape recorder, while he used hip-hop beats of various musicians as his background sound theme, which often played from the loud speakers of his father's deck and he apparently rendered most of his dad's high-life cassettes useless as a result of his mini-recording studio-experiment. Well after producing his own demo tapes locally, he would distribute them free of charge to most of his friends and school mates so they can review his work. Later on in 2006, Fecko was commited in joining forces with an Enugu-based record label and eventually worked on a 9-tracker album. However the album wasn't released due to a snag which was caused by the label, but that didn’t stop him from forging ahead in his hip-hop career. Plus, he made sure that some of his hit tracks off the unreleased album got airplay on both local and international radio stations, while some tracks also got featured on mixtapes, hosted by several DJs who were based in Nigeria, Ohio State (USA) and London (England). Fecko participated in several hip-hop auditions, some of which include the Zain/Nigezie Trusearch (Enugu), Starcomms/Collosal Live Revolution Concert (Lagos) and the Channel O SPRITE EMCEE AFRICA Freestyle Battle Competition which also took place in Lagos. During the first quarter of 2009, he also got featured on the AfricanHipHop.com mixtape alongside other rappers from Zambia, Zimbabwe etc. Although he hopes to pitch his tents with PalmBeach Records sooner or later, but in the meantime, he's currently working freelance on an album and a hip-hop mixtape which will include guest artistes and production works from Nigeria, Cameroon, South Africa, Europe and USA. Fecko is also working real hard to make sure he drops at least two musical videos of good quality on or before the second quarter of 2009, so as to help promote his forthcoming mixtape and album. Currently he has two singles on radio entitled (Nollywood ft Terry da rapman and Phunky Somethin). He's also a member of the African Hip-Hop Movement and a presenter/news correspondent with PowerHouseAfrica.com which is an all-African music website and have, throughout various times during his career as a journalist, conducted several video-taped interviews with some illustrious Nigerian acts like Banky W, Modenine, Overdose, Illbliss and Terry tha rapman just to mention a few. And aside from being a student, lyricist, rapper and a presenter, Fecko is also a graphic/web designer, writer and an online publicist. While some of his hobbies include: surfing the internet, meeting new people, playing basketball, researching, watching musical videos and listening to great songs with thought-provoking lyrics. . ![]() FECKO a.k.a RAPLOGIC www.myspace.com/fecko » Read more... | Who is Omolara? | timmynaijazonegap, March 03/04/09, 2009 |
![]() Singer, songwriter Omolara Ayodele was born in Lagos Nigeria, The only girl in the family of four kids; she was raised by her dad who was an officer in the air force and her mother a nurse. Growing up as a kid, her mother encouraged her and her three brothers to sing, she would teach them songs and make them sing at family functions. After completing her primary and secondary school education at Air Force Primary and Secondary School in Kaduna and Lagos respectively, she went on to the university of Ibadan where she graduated with a degree in Philosophy. In the course of all these events, Omolara discovered her love for music. She started writing songs when she was 10 years old and later on in secondary school, got awarded for her effort when she co-wrote an entry for the proposed new school anthem. While studying at the university, she joined the Spirit of David Dance club where her love and passion for music and songwriting grew even more. As they danced and toured the country, she began to write and perform theme songs as an opening act for the tour. During this time she got to meet other aspiring artistes and featured on some of their work. In 2003 she featured on the root top MCS song “Gods calling you” from the SHOCK THERAPY album, she also collaborated with B.O.U.Q.U.I on the song “Virtuous Woman” on her self titled album. In April 2007, she got a call to be the voice behind the song for the close up Salsa Campaign “The closer the better” which she co-wrote with singer, songwriter and producer Cobhams Asuquo. The song was initially meant for radio promotion alone but when the organizing team listened to the very first demo, they were impressed and intrigued by Omolara’s vocal ability and her promising future as a performing artiste and immediately asked her to be a part of the team that would tour the major cities in the country and perform the song. This very talented singer and songwriter has been involved in many songwriting projects one of which is the theme song for the society for the performing arts in Nigeria (S.P.A.N)”Become a citizen”. Omolara has also worked as a session and background singer for several artistes as well being a writer and voice over artiste for various radio commercials. After a couple of failed management and record deals, Omolara decided to take a bold step at working on the album on her own. The single “Be like yours” which is a product of this effort was produced by renowned producer Cobhams. >Citing the likes of Whitney Houston, Brandy, Mariah Carey and Jill Scot as some of her many musical influences, Omolara’s deeply soulful and atmosphere music is bound to captivate any listener. Her album which is expected to consist of twelve tracks infuses a blend of soul, RnB pop and soft rock, a combination which she hopes will help express her desire to identify with the personal struggles of a lot of young people all over the world as well as a declaration of her Christian faith. The album, which already promises collaboration with the lyrically skilled hip-hop artist M.I, is expected to be released in early 2009. Myspace Omolara here » Read more... (comments: 0) |

| WHO LET THE KAYNON LOOSE? | timmynaijazonegap, February 02/07/09, 2009 |
![]() ![]() Born Joakin Ikazoboh on 14th June 1985 in the unique town of Kaduna north-central, Nigeria. Lived and was brought up in the air force military base, Kaduna. Fondly referred to as, "THE HEART OF THE NORTH" by his teeming fans got introduced to music at an early stage. In his words "My dad was really crazy about his music so he had a large collection of records that got etched into my brain as early as 5yrs old". Fast-forward to the early 90s when rap started taking over mainstream music, a monster was created immediately Kaynon got his hands on a copy of the kriss-kross' debut album. He memorized the tape front to back! "From then on I knew there was no stopping me" he said, "I just had to get me more!" And more he got. He got into air force secondary school Kaduna and picked up on miming as the next best thing; social days were looked forward to like it was Christmas. And one year Christmas came with a very big and unexpected gift when in the middle of his performance, the song he was miming to just stopped, He then had to improvise by spitting the rest of the song acapella to a thunderous applause. "It was 99'; my two buddies and I were miming "Notorious" by biggie when all of a sudden the music just stopped. The lights were still on so we knew it wasn't a power problem but there we were standing there looking stupid as hell in front of the whole school, I some how knew what had to be done and did it, I cant explain what happened that day but am glad it did". He started writing his own stuff in 2000', after which he hooked up with a rap collective in kaduna called "liquid metal" and they recorded a studio demo including the underground cult classic "game is on" which created a momentary buzz in the city but due to school and stuff everyone went solo. His education lead him to Lagos, (Anthony village to be exact) where he lived with his cousin. This quickly became his second home and there the final stage in the evolution of the Loose Kaynon was complete. The beauty of his music lies in the diversity of his rhyming skills and his broad take on issues. From the effortless braggadocio evident on songs like "Swagger" and "It's Okay" to the inspirational offerings of "Kan't Look Back" and lets not forget the smooth and hypnotic flow of "Down Low", one thing is certain this m.c is unpredictable and can switch up his flow at the drop of a hat. We just wonder if the music industry and in deed the world at large is ready for such talent? In summary, you may ask me who is Loose Kaynon and what is he about? Loose Kaynon, is not your average gangster, but certainly better-than-your-average hustler, not your new kid on the rap block but the kid bringing a whole new rap block to light. He is an Mc and rapper extraordinaire. Ye Diggg! www.myspace.com/loosekaynonworld » Read more... (comments: 0) |

| The Revolution NNEKA | timmynaijazonegap, February 02/06/09, 2009 |
![]() Before and since the death of ken saro wiwa in November 1995(In 1990, Saro-Wiwa started to dedicate himself to the amelioration of the problems of the oil producing regions of the Niger Delta. Focusing on his homeland, Ogoni, he launched a non-violent movement for social and ecological justice. In this role he attacked the oil companies and the Nigerian government accusing them of waging an ecological war against the Ogoni and precipitating the genocide of the Ogoni people. He was so effective, that by 1993 the oil companies had to pull out of Ogoni. This cost him his life). The Niger delta has been experiencing political, economic and environmental disenfranchisement. Abject poverty,Gas flaring, Oil spillage, Pollution of Farm land and water are what the people get in return. Oil bunkering and general instability in the region compound energy problems abroad, reducing also the supply and driving up the cost of oil in global markets.Neither the government nor the oil companies have adequately addressed environmental problems such as gas flaring and oil spills. The Nigerian government has not provided adequate security to communities in the Niger Delta. With few exceptions, the government has allowed gangs and militias, some of which are funded by local politicians and party officials, to run rampant. Violence between rival gangs—particularly in the aftermath of the 2003 and 2007 elections—has resulted in the deaths of dozens of innocent civilians. NIGERIA is currently the fourth largest supplier of OIL to the UNITED STATES. In march alone the US imported 1.154 million barrels per day from NIGERIA. The MOSOP(movement of the ogoni people) is one of the first groups that stood up against the Nigerian government and regional oil companies such as SHELL or NNPC to increase local control over their resources. since then other organizations have been inspired to stand up and and protest. I as a civilian born and raised in the Niger delta of nigeria together with the "remember saro-wiwa" organization stand to raise awareness on what is happening in my country. and to stress what role our corrupt political leaders, the west including the US AND UK plays in our present state and condition i want to convince our fellow Nigerians about our responsibilities starting with the man selling oranges on the streets up to the big men that take advantage of the poor and uneducated by using them for their self benefit and then fill their pockets with the money gained from another mans blood or sufferings, eventually run to the church on sunday and say he serves God and that he is Bornagain;"NOTICE ME OR I QUENCH" We ought to practice what we preach:Together we stand, divided we fall" NIAJA NA ONLY WE GO FIT SAVE OURSELVES OH....NOBODY ELSE. Not to forget the international community also has a stake in helping to resolve this conflict: the problems in the Niger Delta also destabilize global markets, especially as the price of oil continues to rise. ![]() Stand up against ; Corruption, against in justice, against Bribery and Hypocrisy.......RAISE UR VOICES NOW. He attended St. Bridget’s Primary School in Aba from where he moved on to Marist Comprehensive Academy Uturu still in Abia state. He was later made the choir master in school, due to his dedication to the choir and participated in several music competitions with his group. Years later, soon after he got into Igbinedion University to study Accounting, he joined the church choir but then did get as much fulfillment and excitement as he had from the previous choir; he left the choir and had a break from music for over a year. The break was soon put an end, as in 2004, he decided to go solo and do music professionally but that didn’t fly for too long as he had to quit music yet again, this time from family pressure. | Simi Simisola The new dawn in Naija`s music scene | timmynaijazonegap, December 12/22/08, 2008 |
![]() Simi is a "debutante" in the music scene and she's been getting mad raves in Nigeria ever since she released her debut album - OGA JU. Although she's actually been singing (and dancing) since her early teens in both the Teen Church choir (at Daystar Christian Centre Nigeria) and her former musical "posse" - Outstanding', she waited till she finished her B.A. degree in Mass Media Communications before releasing an album that was worth the wait. The youngest daughter in a family of performers, Simi was an undiscovered gem, which was gradually been polished and finessed by the watchful eye of her family and music mentors - learning how to make gospel music that people could actually enjoy regardless of religious or culture. At the wake of this millennium, Simi and her friends from the hip hop group - Outstanding' decided to release some roof-shaking songs and caught the attention of various producers. However, they eventually couldn't come to an agreement with any music label. In 2007, Simi decided to go solo. Her first album (produced by SamKlef of Klef Sound Records) was released in August, 2008. Hit single such as ARA ILE and SO FLY are already at the top of the radio music lists in her home country, Nigeria. Simi is also working with the reknowned digital music distributor - BELIEVE DIGITAL, and her album (OGA JU) is now available for download on music sites such as iTunes, Napster, Virgin Media (follow this link - http://www.believedigital.com/albums/24822,oga-ju.html). She's also in the process of working out a deal with the United Colours Agency in Poland to do some performances in Poland (and other European countries - watch this space for more news). Simisola's inspiration is first and foremost from The Word. She's determined to prove to the world that gospel music can be as beautiful and invigorating as secular music. Her role models are artistes like Asa, Cobhams, Natasha Beddingfield and T.Y Bello. Her mum Jedidiah Ogunleye, as well as her church ministers, Rev. Sam Adeyemi and Pastor Nike Adeyemi, have also been strong rocks of support in her life and career. Simisola is destined for greatness and the sky is just a stepping stone... » Read more... | Nigeria child witch killer arrested | timmynaijazonegap, December 12/08/08, 2008 |

Children protest against accusations they are "witches" [photo courtesy of red rebel films and stepping stones nigeria] Campaigners are looking after 170 children accused of being witches [photo courtesy: red rebel films] ![]() Police in south-east Nigeria have arrested a man who claimed to have killed 110 child "witches". "Bishop" Sunday Ulup-Aya told a documentary film team he "delivered" children from demonic possession. But after his arrest, he reportedly told the police he had only killed the "witches" inside, not the children. Child rights campaigners say children are frequently abandoned, hideously injured and even murdered because their families believe they are witches. Self-proclaimed "pastors" extort money from families to exorcise the children, but none has been charged until now. Mr Ulup-Aya was arrested in Akwa Ibom State after a child rights campaigner led police to his church and negotiated a consultation fee for an exorcism. He has now been charged with murder. Five others have been arrested since the weekend and the state government says more arrests are planned Embarrassed "So many people here believe that children can be possessed by demons that there is rarely any action taken against those who claim to deliver the children in violent exorcisms," says Sam Ikpe-Itauma, of the Child Rights and Rehabilitation Network (CRARN). He concluded the child was a witch and had placed a curse on him, so he took him on his bicycle to the river and threw him in Sam Ikpe-Itauma He says he has been working for six years to bring the attention of the state government to the children being abandoned, sold to traffickers, or murdered. But it was not until a British documentary - Dispatches: Saving Africa's Witch Children - was aired on Channel 4 last month that an arrest was made. His organisation is looking after 170 children who have been abandoned or abused after being accused of being witches. Akwa Ibom State spokesman Aniekan Umanah denied they had been embarrassed into acting. "Nobody knew about him, he lives in a very remote village," he said. The state has cared for child victims of abuse, but has not been able to track down abusers because of "lack of documentation", he said. 'Misunderstanding' Mr Ulup-Aya reportedly told police he had not actually killed children. Nigeria map He said there was a misunderstanding - he meant he had killed the witch inside the child, not the child themselves. When police raided his house they found two children inside, but no evidence that any others had been murdered there. "We have him on tape admitting to killing," said Mr Umanah. "It is now up to him to prove otherwise." In the past other "pastors" who claim to have the power to deliver children from demonic possession in violent exorcisms have been arrested, but then quietly released by the police, according to Mr Ikpe-Itauma. "I fear for my life now," he says. Trafficking The fear of child witches is a relatively new phenomenon in Nigeria. Belief in witchcraft is strong across the country but a fear of child witches has become widespread in Akwa Ibom State since 1990s. Now children are blamed for all kinds of misfortune that befalls their families. They are abandoned or sold to child traffickers who then indenture them as house-workers in other parts of Nigeria or into prostitution. Others are violently exorcised to rid the child of the "demons". Exorcism victims seen by CRARN in the past include a child who had nails driven into her head. Earlier this week Mr Ikpe-Itauma said a six-year-old child was brought to their rescue centre after clambering out of a fast-flowing river. "The boy's uncle was experiencing painful swelling in his legs," Mr Ikpe-Itauma told the BBC. "He concluded the child was a witch and had placed a curse on him, so he took him on his bicycle to the river and threw him in." » Read more... (comments: 0) |

| MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs) ERRORS WE NEED TO CORRECT&LEARN FROM | timmynaijazonegap, December 12/05/08, 2008 |
![]() With all due respect and time taking to write this article . First off all I like to thank every one who have been involved in this great occasion and also to those that did not have the opportunity to be a part of the great even. But one thing strikes my mind so badly that I suggest would have made this event even more better and will make it more African if the respect is given to this great Multi Culture Continent,(MCC). Let me start by saying this, am a bit disappointed in the arrangement and the awards the way it was giving and to some of the winners who actually does`nt deserve the awards in one way or the other. In the VIDEO category which was won by IKECHUKWU was a give away, Best NEW ACT that was to Naeto C was a give away, Best HIP HOP awards to 9ice was a give away also. PLEASE READER DON'T STOP HERE OR RUN AWAY FROM THIS ARTICLE YET BUT VIEW MY POINTS AND SEE IF I WAS WRONG OR RIGHT . CATEGORIES LINE UP AND VIEWS....INCLUDING WINNERS. 1. Best Hip-Hop Artist ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 9ice (Nigeria) HHP (South Africa) Professor Jay (Tanzania) Lil Wayne (USA) The Game (USA) This a category 9ice won from and 9ice is not a hip hop artist, so can any one explain to me how come 9ice will have a chance to win even if he is nominated in this category??? Secondly in this category International artists from the Uk or the States is supposed to be excluded and instead have a new category for them such as the one in MOBO awards where International acts from the States was categorized in a special category such as BEST INTERNATIONAL ACT HIP HOP. In this category we have great hip hop acts Like Mode 9, Gino, Ill Bliss and more but can any one tell me where this guys are in any categories and are they not Africans??? 2. Best New Act Kwaw Kese (Ghana) Wahu (Kenya) 9ice (Nigeria) Naeto C (Nigeria) Da L.E.S. (South Africa) Can any one tell me why Asa is not in this category and how Naeto C could go home with this award? Am not hating and this is just a way forward for the industry.... This is a spot for ASA it should be a pick up for her in this category and not the person who went home with it. 3. This is African thing and we should be respected for any thing done on our continent. Can any one tell MTV & Co why categorizing Africans with American acts in same category? and as an African ever been nominated in Mtv USA before or ever won an award? This is one of my greatest pain on this article and am making it known for every one to know how badly we have been treated by the organizers.
