Tuesday, October 03, 2006 Biograpfy of Oti Lucky Current mood: artistic Hi, my name is Otitigbe Lucky i was born in warri delta state of Nigeria on 17.5.1973. In 1985 I really got into music, when my older brother was taking Guitar, Bass and singing lassons, and everything he learned he taught me, and that point I knew, I wanted to be a musician. In 1986 I joined a group as a percussionist, 1987 I became the bassist of the group, and since I was the youngest bass player in the city they all called me "Smally" I was nt satisfied, just being a bass player, so I learned guitar and singing. In 1992 I leeft for Lagos after getting an invitation to join the Sir J.B. group. I soon became their leadsinger and leadguitarist ( also playing Bass, drum, Conger and percusion) and I stayed with them for 3 years. In 1995 a friend and I formed the group "Smallykins" (combination of the 2 names, Smally & kingsly.) some friends, kins brother & 3 of my brothers joined us, and we play 6 times a week in Lagos Hotels, clubs & private parties, like wedding, birthdays e.t.c. In 2003 I came to Switzerland where I found different styles of music, next to the afrobeat, reggae, high life & gosple that I used to play. I started playing soul, funk, blues, e.t.c. I am influenced by Fela Kuti, Sir victor Uwaifo, Hugh Masekela, The Temptations, George benson, Marcus Miller, Ray Charles, Wyclef Jean & Motown Artists My group is called Oti & the afrobeat. and we often play at Africa club parties, or at weddings e.t.c. not only in Switzerland,but also all around Europe. I live in Zurich with my wife & son. My goal in life is, to improve my music constantly, and to make good albums. God bless. |
