    After weeks of massive publicity, anticipation, and excitement, the Soundcity Music Video Awards finally took place at the MUSON Center on Friday, the 11th of April, 2008. And just as expected, it was a glamorous affair, with Artistes, actors, press personalities, and the ‘who’s-who’ of the Nigerian entertainment industry, in attendance looking their best. Arrival of guests began at about 5:00pm and the venue was a beehive of activity as guests mingled, and press did what they do best ; taking photographs and interviewing the guests on the red carpet.


    Fela Kutis Afrobeat legacy made such an enormous impression on the international Nigerian music-lovers scene that much subsequent music in this most versatile of all African nations has been overshadowed or just plain overlooked - outside the home market and the expat Nigerian Diaspora. Afrobeat was amazing but believing that Nigeria has rested on its musical laurels since the heyday of Fela, Sunny Ade and other 70s and 80s superstars is like claiming that British pop ended with Punk!

    Popular American songster, Nas, is set to arrive Nigeria for the inaugural Soundcity Music Video Awards.
    The crooner will be supported by South Africa’s wave-making act, Freshlyground and Ghana’s Tic Tac; and together, they would help fulfill Soundcity’s reputation of adding value to life with the power of music by staging an exceptional, potentially incomparable music awards.
