When i started writing this article, one of the things that came to my mind was one of @cyrus_thavirus’s tweets a couple of weeks ago when this song was recorded; he tweeted some of his lines fron his song; he then ” tweeted” that he couldn’t tweet some of boogey’s lines cos they were on some next level ish.
When i listened to the song, after the first listen, i didnt get all the lines accurately; and after some “explanations” and “analysis”, i’ve decided to write another #OneVerse article on his verse. Not really what i had my mind set on, when i started this series, but i’ll take what i can get; and this verse gives me hope about the future of ” Nigerian music” or music from artists that are Nigerian.
Verse 1 [Boogey]
Somebody show me where the target audience; pen is the sniper’s gun.
299 are gone; as you see the king leonidas run
fiesty when i was carried by my mum, i had a fireball as i was born
a year later they made street fighter one (you a liar, son)
Ini Edo lets me inside, i’ll come
In a hotel room in Benin, Edo. where cyrus is from
The mic is your fire arm? so which side on?
obviously softer than bruno mars on dat lighters song
cyrus strong, enough to catch a grenade
and let it blast in his radius
without a scratch, a patch or an aid (na wash)
half of my rage, could cause the planet to shake
witness the damage of quakes, check it on the richter scale
Concrete jungle where the chicks be mistaking our dicks for tails
i was tipped to fail, but i shall prevail
none of you stopping the saviour of rap with a cross and some friggin nails
small fish from a tiny pond about to lift a whale
i dont mean to brag, who am i kidding?
i’m do or die, sicker than puke when i’m spitting.
thinking how nobody can ever do what i did and it hit me
the most of y’all are self proclaimed
beasts are only human, i figured.
The first line asks where the target audience is and tells us that his pen is his weapon. The next line tells us that most of the audience (299) is gone as you see King Leonidas run; Leonidas was the King of the spartans in “300″; the popular movie. he’s telling us the spartans are fleeing from him and you know what that means.
In the next two lines; he tells us how he was born with a fireball and how they made Street Fighter One a year after he was born (you a liar, son).
After the Ini Edo, Benin & Edo reference, he asks that if the mic’s your firearm; “so which side ya on?”; you are obviously softer than Bruno Mars on that Lighters song; get it? A “pop” singer in between two “very hard” rappers.
He then goes on to “wash” Cyrus.
Then he tells us that the odds are against him in the jungle, but he shall prevail; i’m certainly rooting for him. And you cant stop him; the “saviour of rap” with a cross and some friggin nails.
Finally he tells us that
he doesn’t mean to brag, but he’s sicker than puke, and he wonders why nobody can do what he has done, but he figured it out; “cos most y’all are self proclaimed and only human”.
After listening to this song for the
umpteenth time, i created a Boogey playlist and i honestly see myself writing more #OneVerse articles on Boogey very soon.
