Towards a new Nigeria

| February 3, 2012 | 1 Comment

Nigeria, the self acclaimed giant of Africa is at the moment experiencing changes, good and bad. The good thing is that the good changes are more realistic and the bad changes are bound to die a natural death.

It is no more news that President Goodluck Jonathan decided to punish Nigerians with fuel subsidy removal on the 1st of January 2012, and it is also no more news that Nigerians are now aware of happenings in government. Young Nigerians have developed interest in how the country is governed, government officials are being watched, never in the history of Nigeria has the budget been scrutinized like the proposed 2012 budget.

Nigerians have come together to fight the common enemy which is corruption in government,  religion and ethnicity have been sold to us as the enemy but the Occupy Nigeria protests saw Nigerians coming together to fight the common enemy; Corruption.

President Goodluck was quoted as saying Nigerians want to bring down his government because he is not the first to increase the price of fuel and so he won’t revert to the old price. What the he failed to understand is that Nigerians are now more informed and more interested in how government is run and it won’t end with the GEJ government, it will happen in all tiers of government.

If only this happened before the 2011 polls, things won’t be this way. We await 2015 which will be our last chance to get things right.

God bless Nigeria.
